Professional project control

Move from task lists to an accountable delivery plan

Project Professional connects dates, dependencies, people, workload and cost in one desktop planning environment. The result is a plan that can be tested, baselined and explained—not merely displayed.

Build realistic schedules

Structure phases, tasks and milestones, then use dependencies, calendars and automated scheduling to understand how one change affects the finish date.

Expose the critical path

Highlight predecessor and successor relationships so the work that directly influences delivery receives the right attention.

Balance resources

Assign people, equipment and material resources, review availability and identify overallocations before they become delivery problems.

Report with context

Use built-in reports, multiple timelines and baseline comparisons to turn detailed plan data into a clearer stakeholder conversation.

Project team reviewing resource capacity and task dependencies

Resources and workload

Put credible capacity behind every commitment

A schedule is only achievable when the required people and equipment are available. Project Professional helps you connect assignments, availability and rates to the plan.

  • Review assignments and resource availability
  • Identify workload conflicts and overallocations
  • Model standard, overtime and cost-per-use rates
  • Test alternative assignments before changing the baseline

Baselines, cost and reporting

Explain why the forecast changed

Capture an approved baseline, update actual progress and compare the current position with the original plan. This helps decision makers see movement in dates, effort and cost.

BaselinePreserve the approved plan.
VarianceCompare plan with actual performance.
ForecastModel the effect of change.
ReportsCommunicate progress clearly.

Microsoft Project supports project cost planning and tracking; it is not accounting, payroll or ERP software.

Choose the right product

A strong fit for detailed desktop planning—not every workflow

Choose this edition if you…

  • Manage complex dependencies, milestones or critical-path work
  • Need deeper resource, workload and cost control
  • Prefer a one-time purchase over a recurring subscription
  • Work primarily from one licensed Windows PC
  • Need Professional features such as timesheets or supported server connectivity

Do not choose this product if you…

  • Need installations on two or more computers
  • Use macOS, Chromebook, iPadOS or Android as the required platform
  • Need RDS, shared server, pooled desktop or volume deployment rights
  • Require continuous feature upgrades or browser-first collaboration
  • Only need straightforward individual scheduling covered by Standard

Retail licence explained

One licensed PC, with retail transfer rights

Microsoft licenses the software rather than selling ownership of the software itself. For stand-alone retail software, the licence terms permit one installed instance on one licensed physical or virtual device, used by one person at a time.

One device

Install and activate one instance on one licensed PC. A second PC requires another licence.

Transferable under the terms

Stand-alone retail software may generally be transferred to another device you own no more than once every 90 days, except following hardware failure. Remove it from the previous device.

Purchased version remains yours to use

No recurring subscription payment is required for the licensed 2024 version. Future major releases are not included.

Not an RDS or volume licence

This retail page does not grant shared-server, pooled desktop, multi-user or volume-deployment rights.

Lifecycle visibility

Plan around a defined support horizon

Microsoft lists Project 2024 under its Modern Lifecycle Policy, with retirement in October 2029. The purchased application does not automatically become a subscription, but operating-system compatibility, connected services and security planning still matter over time.

Buyer questions

Microsoft Project Professional 2024 Retail FAQs

Clear answers to the questions that should be resolved before payment.

Is this a subscription?

No. It is a one-time purchase for the licensed Project Professional 2024 version. It does not include automatic rights to a future major release.

How many computers can I install it on?

One licensed PC. The retail terms permit one installed instance on one licensed physical or virtual device.

Can I move the retail licence to another PC?

Microsoft’s stand-alone retail terms generally allow transfer to another device you own no more than once every 90 days, except following hardware failure. The software must be removed from the previous device.

Does Project Professional 2024 run on a Mac?

No. Project Professional 2024 is a Windows desktop application. Running Windows through a virtual machine is a separate configuration that still counts as the licensed device and should be compatibility-checked before purchase.

Can I use this through RDS or on a shared server?

This dedicated retail product is not positioned for RDS, pooled desktops, shared-server deployment or volume licensing. Contact Software Mart for a correctly licensed organisational solution.

Is a Microsoft account required?

Yes. Microsoft lists a Microsoft account and internet access among the retail setup requirements. Use an account that the licence owner can retain and manage.

Will it work beside Microsoft 365 Apps?

Supported combinations depend on installation technology, update channel, version and bitness. Update Microsoft 365 Apps and confirm compatibility before installing Project.

What is the difference between Professional and Standard?

Both provide strong desktop scheduling. Professional is the better fit for advanced resource scenarios, timesheets and supported Project Server connectivity. Standard may suit individual planners who do not need that organisational layer.

What happens after purchase?

After payment and order verification, Software Mart provides digital licence information and setup guidance. Delivery timing can vary when an order requires additional verification.

Does Software Mart provide installation help?

Software Mart setup assistance is available. Contact the team before ordering if your PC has an older Office installation, unusual deployment channel or complex business environment.

Confirm compatibility. Purchase once. Plan with control.
