Legacy Windows upgrade licence

Upgrade an eligible Windows 10 Home PC to Windows 10 Pro

Choose a digital licence quantity for 1–100 compatible PCs when a verified legacy requirement means Windows 10 Pro is still the right fit. Back up first and confirm your upgrade path, drivers and licence terms before ordering.

Important: Windows 10 support ended 14 October 2025

Microsoft's standard technical assistance, feature updates, software updates and security fixes for Windows 10 Home and Pro have ended. Treat this as a legacy-use product—not the default choice for a new general-purpose or internet-facing PC. Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU), where a device is eligible, are separate and are not included with this product.

Start with the use case

Who should—and should not—buy this upgrade?

A considered fit

  • An activated Windows 10 Home PC that specifically needs Pro features.
  • Reinstallation or recovery of an existing, properly licensed Windows 10 Pro environment.
  • Controlled legacy, test or specialist-app deployments with a documented reason to remain on Windows 10.
  • Organisations with their own compatibility, security and ESU assessment.

Choose a supported option instead

  • A new everyday home, school or business PC.
  • A device eligible for Windows 11 with no legacy dependency.
  • A sensitive or internet-facing system without a security-maintenance plan.
  • A PC whose Windows 10 drivers, storage or backup plan have not been confirmed.

Your current situation What this page may support What to verify first
Activated Windows 10 Home Edition upgrade to Windows 10 Pro using a valid Pro product key. Activation status, Pro-feature need, backup and licence terms.
Activated Windows 10 Pro Reinstallation/reactivation may be possible when permitted by the supplied licence terms. Licence channel, device binding, transfer and reinstallation rights.
Windows 7 or 8.1 A new Windows 10 licence is required; do not assume an old product key is a current free-activation route. Hardware drivers, clean-install plan, backup and whether Windows 11 is the safer destination.
Windows 11-eligible PC Windows 11 is normally the supported choice. Application and hardware compatibility before changing operating system.
Multiple PCs Select the quantity matching the intended number of devices. Confirm whether keys are supplied individually and which licence terms apply to every device.

Official Home-to-Pro route

How an eligible Windows 10 Home edition upgrade works

Confirm activation. In Settings, verify that Windows 10 Home is activated on the device.
Back up the PC. Protect files and create an appropriate recovery plan before changing edition.
Enter a valid Windows 10 Pro key. Follow Microsoft's Activation settings workflow while connected to the internet.
Restart and verify. Confirm that Windows reports the Pro edition and remains activated.

An edition upgrade is designed to retain files and installed apps when the device is eligible, but a current backup is still essential. See Microsoft's Home-to-Pro instructions.

Windows 10 Pro upgrade FAQ

Is Windows 10 still supported by Microsoft?

Standard support for Windows 10 Home and Pro ended on 14 October 2025. Microsoft no longer provides the normal technical assistance, feature updates, software updates or security fixes for those editions.

Can I upgrade Windows 10 Home to Pro without removing my files?

Microsoft's supported edition-upgrade process is designed to retain files and installed apps on an eligible, activated device. Back up first because no upgrade is risk-free.

Can I use an old Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 key?

Do not assume so. Microsoft's former free-upgrade activation route for Windows 7 and 8 keys is not the current path. A new, valid Windows 10 licence and a compatible installation plan are required.

Should I install Windows 10 on a Windows 11-eligible PC?

Usually not. Windows 11 is the supported destination for eligible general-purpose PCs. Choose Windows 10 only when a verified legacy dependency justifies it and the security implications have been assessed.

Does each quantity option cover that number of PCs?

Select the 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100-PC option for the intended device count. Contact Software Mart before payment if you need to confirm whether keys are delivered individually or another fulfilment structure is used.

Is a boxed disc or USB included?

No physical media is advertised. This product is fulfilled digitally after order verification. Confirm installation-media requirements before payment.

Is the licence Retail or OEM, and can it be transferred?

The catalogue record does not state the licence channel or transfer rights. Ask Software Mart before payment if device binding, reinstallation or transfer is important to your purchase.

Does the licence include both 32-bit and 64-bit installation?

Architecture and language entitlement are not stated in the catalogue record. Confirm them before ordering, and remember that changing architecture normally requires a clean installation.

Does this include Microsoft's Extended Security Updates?

No. ESU is a separate Microsoft programme for eligible devices and is not included with this product.

What help does Software Mart provide?

Software Mart Australia can provide store-level installation and activation guidance. This is separate from Microsoft product support, which has ended for Windows 10 Home and Pro.

Confirmed a Windows 10 Pro legacy requirement?

Choose the number of eligible PCs, review the support notice and complete your order. If licence channel, transfer, media, architecture, language or activation details matter, ask before payment.
