Choose a 2, 5, 10, 20 or 50-CAL pack for named-user access to an appropriately licensed Windows Server 2016 Datacenter environment. One supplied licence record covers the selected CAL quantity. These CALs provide access rights; they do not include the Datacenter server software, core licensing or Remote Desktop Services licensing.

Datacenter buyer note: Windows Server CALs are version-based rather than edition-specific. This page is organised for customers licensing access to Windows Server 2016 Datacenter; the underlying 2016 CAL entitlement can also cover Standard of the same or an earlier version, subject to Microsoft's terms.

Is a Server CAL Windows Server Datacenter software?

No. It provides access rights for the licensed users. Windows Server 2016 Datacenter software and core licensing must be purchased separately.

Does one User CAL cover several people?

No. Each User CAL is assigned to one named user. Choose Device CALs instead when many people share a smaller number of fixed devices.

Can a licensed user work from several devices?

Yes. A User CAL follows the named user rather than one endpoint, subject to Microsoft's licence terms.

Do I enter this in Remote Desktop Licensing Manager?

Are CALs different for Standard and Datacenter?
